Charity Day

In 2010 Paul D.  suggested we have a day to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and the Multiple Sclerosis Trust. As centrepiece of the event, Paul would attempt to keep in steam for 12 hours his 3½” gauge model of BR No. 70000 “Britannia” built by O.S. Live Steam in Japan. However, although the idea came from Paul, he was keen that the initiative should be an official club event with as many members as possible involved, and that is exactly how it turned out.

Trying to keep one locomotive running continuously was a new experience and it captured the interest of many. The other notable feature of the day was the wonderful camaraderie everyone showed in working together to benefit two very worthwhile causes. The day was a personal triumph for Paul but many other members and our friends contributed significantly to its success.

Triumph!

Triumph!

To date the sum raised for our chosen charities is around £1700 and it will rise further.

And here’s a video of the event
