A Welcome for Tyro and Expert Alike

YC&DSME caters for all those who have a common interest in model engineering whether they are  amateurs, professionals, inexperienced & experienced engineers or the newcomer to the hobby. Our members are from all walks of life and from a wide age range of occupations and professions.
The Society draws  its membership from an ever widening area of the country. Whilst the majority are resident in Yorkshire, including York, Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk, Leeds, Selby, Tadcaster,Scarborough and Bridlington, there has been an influx of members from areas such as Cheshire, Durham, Lancashire, Lincolnshire and even from as far afield as Gallashiels in Scotland and from London.

If you have an interest in modelling and miniature engineering, why not join the York Society?

Is your Interest Here?

The interests of members range from locomotives from 4mm scale to 7 1/4” gauges, clocks, workshop tools, steam  engines of any sort, traction engines, hot air engines, i.c. engines, model aero engines, boats, agricultural equipment, model aircraft and even  12” to the foot aircraft.

Enjoy the Excellent Facilities

The  Society is fortunate to own a substantial site beside the East Coast Main Line at Dringhouses, York and has plenty of space for miniature road vehicles and two miniature railway tracks which meander through beautiful woodland. A raised track of about 1/5th of a mile, which caters for 5", 3 1/2", 2 1/2" Gauge locomotives and stock, has been  supplemented recently with a ground level track, currently 1/3rd mile but planned to grow, that caters for 7 1/4"  and 5" Gauge locomotives.

The Society has its own excellent clubhouse which, it is hoped, will be extended soon. The clubhouse is very well equipped with excellent audio visual aids. There is an excellent library, including complete volumes of the Model Engineer Magazine going back to the very early years. Access and facilities for the disabled have been recently improved.
