Harrogate and Pickering Model Engineering Shows It is intended that the club will attend both of the above shows this year. See Calendar for dates
Easter Steaming and Fun Day After a break of a couple of years, there were lots of fun activities for the youngsters once again with, of course, lots of Easter Eggs to be won! Over forty children took part in the various activities and they all seemed to be having lots of fun. There was plenty of activity on both the elevated and the ground level tracks too. Fortunately the weather was very good and people enjoyed being out in the open. All in all, this was a superb day for all who took part.
Meetings during the summer months are normally held on the first Saturday of each month at the clubhouse. These meetings are intended as social events rather than with a formal agenda and speakers. Starting at 7.30 pm rather than 7 pm there is always a plentiful supply of tea before the meeting. Visitors/guests are always welcome. Please contact the Secretary, Pat Martindale, if possible beforehand (honsec@yorksme.org.uk). The programme is informal and may range from club discussions to specific engineering topics. Those attending are asked to bring something to the meeting as a focus for discussion. This can be an actual object, a problem, a modelling shortcut or a question on model engineering matters. Running days at the site in summer are twice per month ( see calendar). Because of restrictions on the planning permit, none of the running days are open to the public. However, visiting fellow model engineers and members' guests are welcomed. Please contact the Secretary, Pat Martindale, in advance. If you wish to run your locomotive or traction engine on the York site, you are required to be a paid up member of a recognised model engineering, traction engine or locomotive society. A current boiler certificate for steam engines will be required and any relevant paperwork e.g. road vehicle papers. The York Society Track marshall may require to see evidence of current membership. The annual summer barbeque will be held on Saturday July 7th at the club site. This is not a public event and is only open to members and families, friends and guests by invitation. Tickets for the BBQ meal are priced at £4 adults and £2 children. Bonfire Steaming The annual Bonfire Steaming will be held on Saturday, 3rd November. This is very much a family affair and is becoming increasingly popular. Last year's firework display was the biggest and best ever. Many members with small children now prefer this communal celebration rather than a home bonfire and fireworks. Of course, the fish and chip supper is a popular attraction too. |
